The broad Gulf of Fethiye is undoubtedly the most beautiful large inlet of water on the whole Turkish coast. Perfect for a relaxing holiday with some sailing and interesting land excursions. Many pine-fringed small bays with distant white-topped mountains and calm protected blue seas. Visit the mysterious island of St. Nicholas (4th Cent. AD), the saint who was the model for Father Christmas, the spectacular Roman tombs at Lydae and, optionally, the beautiful Dalyan River. Sample the crabs and fish and explore the ancient city of Caunus with Greek stoa by the harbour, Roman theatre, baths and a fine Early Christian church. No built-up areas on this route.
