Why book ‘Odysseus’?
There are many gulets, but very few like ‘Odysseus’. Odysseus
is a British flagged and managed luxury gulet designed in detail by the
owners. It has a professional, trained crew of three. Odysseus is equipped
with modern facilities and full air-conditioning but it is traditionally
designed and built, with lots of mahogany, brass, leather and marble.
Is Turkey safe?
In eighteen years we have never encountered trouble. Turkish people are
particularly kind and friendly. Turkey is a secular country with increasingly
modern services.
Does Turkey get hot?
The weather is warm to very hot during our cruising season of April to
end of October. July and August are the hottest months with temperatures
in the mid 30s Centigrade. Large awnings over the forward and aft decks,
sea breezes and the sea itself for swimming make it acceptable for most
clients. All the cabins have air-conditioning. May to June and September
to October are comfortably warm with temperatures in the low to high 20s
Centigrade. Check out the water temperature.
Are the itineraries fixed?
No. We specialise in tailor-made holidays. Tell us what you would like

What to bring on holiday?
Apart from whatever makes you comfortable, important, are sun creams,
after-sun balm, sun glasses, sun hats, shorts, swimming costumes, shirts
(long sleeved in hot weather) comfortable shoes for hikes ashore as ancient
sites do have rough ground and soft luggage for easy storage. Smart casual
for evenings on board or ashore which are invariably worth preparing for.
On the mundane side, there are plenty of towels on board for the bathrooms
and for swimming, but bring mosquito repellents for hot months and most
important your personal medication, if any.
What about safety equipment?
Odysseus is equipped to European safety standards with two 8 person life-rafts,
plenty of lifejackets (including children’s sizes), horseshoe, lifebuoys.
There are smoke alarms and fire extinguishers in all cabins, saloon and
engine room; man-overboard lifting tackle, dan buoy and regulation flares;
modern radar and the latest marine radio and GPS systems. It is unusual
to find this level of equipment on a Turkish gulet.
Do you visit the Greek Islands?
Yes, if required and after full discussion with you as to the route that
interests you. There are twelve Greek islands just off the shore of Turkey,
they are all very different but Symi is, in our view the most attractive.
It is a truly memorable event to visit this island. As with all Greek
Islands the authorities make extra charges.
